Passionate Painter Podcast Episode 22: Painter Mark Fehlman on How to Use Design Strategies for Powerful Paintings
I’m happy to bring you an interview with painter Mark Fehlman. I just finished his online course, “Design Strategies for Powerful Paintings”, and got a lot out of it. The instruction is clear and actionable, and Mark has a warm, engaging style that is pleasant to follow along with. You probably know that podcasts and audio instruction get me through my morning workouts, and after my first lesson, I found myself looking forward my the next session on my beast of a step machine. Add THAT Mark’s accomplishments with his course. It doesn’t matter that Mark is primarily plein air and I mostly focus on figurative and portraiture, I’m already applying his strategies to my work. I’m convinced you’ll enjoy hearing Mark’s insights as well.
Mark Fehlman practiced as an architect for 35 years, as the design partner for the San Diego based firm Fehlman LaBarre Architects. Mark is equally comfortable in figurative and landscape subjects that feature strong composition, well-defined value relationships, and vibrant color. He has won numerous awards in various shows, including the “Grand Award” for the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association 2014 Best of Plein Air, First Place in the 2012 Borrego Springs Plein Air Festival, as well as many other awards and recognition. His work has been included in the California Art Club Gold Medal show, the On Location in Malibu show at Pepperdine’s Weisman Museum, the Tejon Ranch show at the Bakersfield Museum of Art, and the Maynard Dixon Country Show in Utah. He is an artist member of the California Art Club and Signature Member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association.
